Nepal is extremely vulnerable to natural disasters, ranking 11th in global vulnerability to earthquakes and 30th in vulnerability to floods. Each year flooding and erosion of river banks cause loss of life, destruction of homes and community infrastructure, death of livestock, and decimation of arable land, crops and property. Mercy Corps in cooperation with Nepal Red Cross Kailali chapter is working on a risk reduction program that through training and awareness campaigns aims to improve the capacity of local communities to deal with crisis situations.
