Helping kids in Pakistan
Fighting in Pakistan between the army and Taliban militants continues. Thousands have lost their homes, their farms and livelihoods — but those who've lost the most may well be the children who've had to flee everything they've ever known.
Mercy Corps is organizing sports and social activities for 4,000 displaced children at schools-turned-displacement-camps. That's helping them get back to the business of being kids and alleviating some of the stress caused by living in cramped, unfamiliar places.
Your gift to Mercy Corps will help us respond to the needs of children fleeing violence in Pakistan and around the world.
Each of the 4,000 children receives an activity kit that includes a backpack, crayons and paper. We're also giving each of the 10 schools money to purchase additional materials such as puzzles, sports equipment and art supplies.
Reaching out to children in need isn't new for Mercy Corps. We deployed our "Moving Forward" program after earthquakes in China and Peru, using sports, local games and dance to help alleviate the grief and trauma children suffer as a result of natural disaster and conflict.
