COEUR D'ALENE, IDAHO
Going the Distance: Raising $10,000 for Mercy Corps for the Ironman Coeur d'Alene
When: June 22, 2008. Cheering begins at 7AM for approximatly 12 hours.
Where: Center of Coeur d'Alene right on the beach.
Event Description: On New Year's Day 2008, when most people were sleeping off the parties of the night before, Brian August was up bright and early for a 100-mile bike ride. Brian August has always been involved with athletics, from riding a BMX bike as a kid to competing as a NCAA swimmer in college. Now, as an amateur triathlete he is taking the plunge into the big distances.
Brian is training for Ironman Coeur d'Alene, an endurance triathlon consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike and a 26.2-mile run. He plans on spending 10 to 20 hours per week preparing for race. He realizes how lucky he is to live in a place peaceful and safe enough to allow for this training and wants to keep the focus on a greater purpose.
Brian has set the goal of raising $10,000 for Mercy Corps in the 6 months it takes him to train for the Ironman. He is calling it his IronCause. "I feel so fortunate to have the time and resources it takes to train for the Ironman, I wanted to be able to give something back. Mercy Corps was an obvious choice for me because it is an organization I respect and admire. I look forward to introducing people to the cause, and maybe getting them out on bike rides too!" said Brian between a training run and swim.

About Jazzgoods: Jazzgoods offers high quality, original art products by Colorado resident artist Tom Zilis. Initial product line includes: holiday cards, all-occasion cards, and jazz & blues posters. Jazzgoods was started by two brothers in Colorado who had a vision of combining their passion and talent for jazz and art into a business that could give back a large portion of its proceeds to help the community. A friend and former colleague with extensive community service joined Jazzgoods to pursue its goals. The destruction of New Orleans and the Mississippi coast by Hurricane Katrina was the genesis for The American Music Campaign. The three partners decided to use their joint talents and experiences to launch a long-term fundraising effort for the continued relief and rebuilding efforts through the sale of original jazz and blues products.
