Climate change affects us all; we see its effects almost every day through drought, flood, high temperatures and famine. Mankind's excesses — problems such as pollution and environmental degradation — have driven us to the breaking point. We must act now to save shrinking water resources, dwindling forests and, indeed, the lives and livelihoods of billions of people.

Why Help Is Needed

Climate change threatens life-support systems for all people on our planet. Fallout from shifting weather patterns disrupts water access, hinders food production and spreads disease. It threatens the livelihoods of the people Mercy Corps serves and has the potential to spur a global humanitarian crisis.

We’re helping communities adapt to climate changes by creating new viable energy options and job opportunities that support economic development. Our Cool Carbon initiative advances innovative projects — including ones that produce micro-hydroelectric power, distribute solar water heaters and make biofuel from recycled cooking oil. Combined, these efforts are addressing the challenges of climate change and reducing poverty.
