Phoenix Fund Semi-Annual Report, Jan-June 2008
October 24, 2008
The Phoenix Fund is a social entrepreneurship fund focused on creating economic opportunity in the world's poorest countries. Through seed capital grants and loans, the Phoenix Fund makes strategic investments to implement economic development projects led by local entrepreneurs. These types of urgent and innovative programs often encounter difficulty attracting funds from large foundations and government agencies. The Phoenix Fund helps start up these programs, allowing them to gain the footing they need to attract larger-scale funding in later phases.
The Phoenix Fund currently supports nine projects in eight countries, on four continents. Included in this report are summaries of the projects, including three new projects that launched during this reporting period.
For detailed information on any of these projects, please contact Danielle Wheeler, Director of Phoenix Fund, dwheeler@mercycorps.org or 503.796.6800.
