Mercy Corps has resumed our decades-long humanitarian response in Afghanistan after pausing operations last year due to security risks. We’re working to meet immediate needs for Afghans who have been displaced from their homes due to violence and severe drought, many of whom are living without shelter and access to basic necessities.

We are also looking towards the future by partnering with local businesses to establish vocational training centers for young adults to build practical, income-earning skills.

Mercy Corps has worked in Afghanistan since 1986, collaborating with communities to improve the quality of life for Afghans, from improved sanitation services to agriculture and vocational training. In 2020, we reached over 370,000 people across the country.
