Mercy Corps at COP29
This year’s annual United Nations (U.N.) climate summit to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), or COP29, will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 – 22, 2024.
Mercy Corps will attend COP29 to leverage existing networks like Climate Action Network (CAN), CAN Europe, InterAction, and strong relationships across governments in the U.S., EU, Netherlands, and U.K., to shape climate negotiations in pursuit of specific policy changes.
What’s our position?
Mercy Corps believes that climate finance is about responsibility and justice for developing countries that did the least to contribute to climate change. That’s why we will advocate for the climate finance goal, the New Collective Qualified Goal (NCQG), to allocate trillions of dollars in core public grant funding across mitigation, adaptation, and loss and damage to prevent the current imbalance, where most funds go toward mitigation. We will be highlighting what works in climate adaptation—including renewable energy, sustainable livestock systems, and safe migration pathways.
