Famine in Somalia: Give now

A parent and 9 month-old child look out from inside their tent at an idp camp.
Mercy Corps is helping to support families like Amira’s in camps where people have sought assistance due to dire hunger.

Famine has officially been declared in Somalia. An exceptionally severe, prolonged drought, combined with rapidly increasing food prices, has caused catastrophic levels of food insecurity in Somalia and across the Horn of Africa. People are already dying – we need to act fast to save lives and prevent more families from falling into poverty and hunger.

Mercy Corps is working with partners on the ground to provide immediate assistance to alleviate hunger and meet basic needs while also providing water, dietary supplements to prevent malnutrition, and veterinary services to keep livestock alive and secure people’s livelihoods. Together, we can support families in Somalia and all over the Horn of Africa.
