Alexa Holmes is Mercy Corps’ General Counsel, leading legal affairs and guiding the organization’s approach to working in complex environments to ensure Mercy Corps can achieve its mission while remaining compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
Alexa has spent her career as an international lawyer in the for-profit and not-for-profit sector. Prior to joining Mercy Corps, Alexa was based in Kampala, Uganda, as Associate General Counsel at the Wildlife Conservation Society, where she served as in-house attorney for the organization’s Africa portfolio across 17 countries. Previously, Alexa worked as an associate at the Cleary Gottlieb law firm on a wide range of cross-border corporate and litigation matters, and at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the U.N. in Rome as a special consultant to the Legal Counsel on the closure of the Oil for Food Program in Iraq.
Alexa holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. from Brown University, and received her LL.M in European and Comparative Law from the European University Institute.
