Policy for Resilience: Climate Action and Disaster Preparedness in Jordan
Jordan is exposed to mounting climate change challenges that has heighten the country’s vulnerability to disasters, from intense heatwaves to more frequent and severe flash floods. The consequences of these impacts could hinder progress toward national development goals and create long-term challenges for Jordan’s water security, agricultural productivity, and economic resilience.
To support evidence-based policy interventions, Mercy Corps, in partnership with the London School of Economics, conducted a national assessment of Jordan's climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction (DRR) landscape. The analysis reviews existing policies, identifies gaps and challenges, and offers recommendations for their improved implementation.
The results are captured in three key documents: (1) a Policy Brief that offers practical, evidence-based recommendations to strengthen climate adaptation and disaster resilience in Jordan, (2) an Evidence Paper that presents the full scope of the research and analysis to substantiate all of the findings highlighted in the brief, (3) and an Annex that covers all of Jordan’s CCA and DRR legislations and policies.
These resources aim to inform policymakers, donors, and development practitioners working to strengthen climate-resilience and disaster preparedness in Jordan.
